Hello and a very warm welcome to everyone from ‘The Chatterbox’ within Silver Birch Dell!
It’s been another very busy month with two wonderful book events over the last couple of weeks. It was so lovely to meet lots of readers of all ages and talk about our Behind The Fairy Door books.
This month, I have also interviewed another member of our team called Jane who popped by our ‘The Chatterbox’ and she shared who her favourite character is!
What do you do in the Team?
I am responsible for the design and layout of all the pages within the books.
Who is your favourite character?
DT! I love him – partly because I had two gorgeous fluffy ginger cats, called Jaffa and Kipling, who were exactly like DT. Except they weren’t as clever as he is, and couldn’t talk! DT is such a wonderful, kind character, and I love all the expressions on his face.
How did you begin to put the text and illustrations together to make the pages interesting
This can be quite tricky, as it is important to fit the correct text to the illustrations, so that when the stories are read, they come to life with the scenes being depicted on the page The text needs to fit properly around the illustrations, so that the story is easy to read, and there aren’t any strange breaks in the words or sentences. The pages need to look balanced and varied in their design. Luckily, I have wonderful stories and drawings to work with.
What is your favourite place in the Dell?
Silver Birch Deli, which came to life in Giuseppe and the Flowers (which is my favourite book so far!). I love Italian food, and the descriptions of the cheese counter, pizza oven and ‘Nice Cream’ counter make my mouth water. It is so pretty and welcoming, with the olive and lemon trees, pot plants and colourful lanterns.
